After missing out on a chance to compete for Bahrain in the Pan Arab Championships held last week at the Royal Golf Club, member and National Team player Abdulla Sultan made up for lost ground as he scooped top prize in the AXA Insurance Members’ Golf Day.
The individual stableford competition was played on the Royal Golf Club’s Montgomerie championship course. Sultan’s fantastic gross 67, amounting to 39 points, was enough to win the event by two points.
Matt Doyle finished second with 37 points and Nik Stewart completed the top three on 35 points. Tony Bridgens won two of the nearest the pin competitions on holes two and 12 while Graham Clewley came closest on the 7th and Lady Vice Captain Hanne Hansen won on the 16th.
More than 95 golfers turned out for the tournament organised by AXA country manager and Royal Golf Club member Steve Wagstaff. As well as sponsoring the prizes, AXA also provided goodie bags for each competitor as well as food and beverages.
Results: 1st Abdulla Sultan (39 points), 2nd Matt Doyle (37), 3rd Nik Stewart (35). Nearest the pins: Tony Bridgens (holes 2 & 12), Graham Clewley (hole 7), Hanne Hansen (hole 16).
