Munsters fans were leaping in joy recently when a reboot of the series was ordered by NBC … but it looks like the series may be dead already.

Bryan Fuller, the writer-director-producer of the series which was named Mockingbird Lane, said NBC has not ordered a US series based on his pilot for The Munsters reboot.

The remake appeared as a Halloween special, with the hope that it could still launch into a full-fledged TV series if the ratings were stellar enough. Starring Jerry O’Connell, Portia de Rossi, and Eddie Izzard, the series was a wonderful blend of morbid mockery. But today Fuller tweeted the sad fate of his show: “I tweet with a heavy heart. NBC is not moving forward with MockingbirdLane. From producers and cast, thank you all for enthusiasm and support.”

TVGuide.com said about 5.4 million viewers tuned in for the pilot for the monster family drama Mockingbird Lane, which aired as a Halloween special in October.

It starred Jerry O’Connell as Herman Munster, Portia de Rossi as his wife, Lily, and Eddie Izzard as Grandpa.
