Members of Awali Football Club (AFC) put their best foot forward in an unaccustomed manner, testing their abilities at Awali Golf Club (AGC) with golf.

Players were allowed only two clubs and a putter in the John Gunby 3-Club challenge over nine holes.

With the event sponsored by Mubadala Petroleum, AGC members were also in the field  to show the less experienced AFC players how to do it.

The record for the competition is a level-par gross 35, set in 1991 by Richard Field.

When the results were announced by competition organiser Steve Brown, the 3-club limitation appeared to have little impact on the play of some players, most noticeably Petri Kettunen, coming home with an adjusted score of 37 strokes (actual gross-40) to be the overall winner. Kettunen also become the first player to win the competition twice.

Other results: Men – 1 Richard Pawson 38, 2 Andy McAlpine 38, 3 Alan Goulden 38. Women – 1 Susan Scott 38, 2 Nicky Park 38, 3 Jo Pawson 40.
