American Horror Story has had its fair share of ghosts, aliens and murderers, but it looks like the cult TV series is adding a hocus pocus element to the upcoming series … witches.
In fact, the third season’s official title has been revealed as American Horror Story: Coven.
Series creator Ryan Murphy also made the announcement that actress Kathy Bates will be going head-to-head with Jessica Lange for this instalment.
Murphy said: “It’s a really cool story we’ve been talking about for a couple of years. So we’re going to do that. The fun thing is researching what are the really haunted places in America, and we have a couple of doozy locales. Season three is about a lot of things. I wanted to see a lot of scenes of Kathy and Jessica going at it, so that’s what you’re going to see.”
Bates’ and Lange’s characters are described as former best friends who have since become bitter enemies.
Murphy even hinted that a future ‘companion piece’ for American Horror Story may deal with vampires; a subject he has voiced disdain for in the past. “It would be really cool to do a couple of different incarnations of the idea,” said Murphy. “But I can’t talk too much about it.”
Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Tasia Farmiga, Frances Conroy and Sarah Paulson have all been signed to return to the show as new characters. Additional cast members will be announced closer to the start of production.
American Horror Story: Coven is expected to premiere in the US in October.
American Horror Story: Asylum airs on Tuesdays at 10pm on OSN First HD
