Gulf Weekly Chaoss squad shines in Dubai

Bahrain’s young gymnasts returned home to the kingdom with a bag full of medals after a successful appearance at a regional competition held in Dubai.

The Children’s Health Academy of Specialised Sports (CHAOSS) captured 15 for the girls, 12 for the boys which included eight gold, 12 silver and seven bronze medals at the 2013 Inter-Gulf Gymnastics Competition, last weekend.

The youngest medallists were seven-year-olds Felix Haug and Kyle Cubitt and eight year-olds Sophie Moir, Aliyah Idris and Dianna Wilder.

Coach Debbie Payne said: “It was a great competition and the new ones who were there for the first time did a great job. It’s also nice to see our seniors taking on the role of looking after the younger gymnasts when our coaches were judging.”

The squad members would like to thank their parents and sponsors for the support shown, including Reza Hygiene, Majaal, Paxton Co, Seef Dental and Alosra.

The gold medal winners were: Michaela Sandy (12+) on the bars, Aliyah Idris (8 & under) on the vault, Nicky Payne (11 & under) on beam and overall, Felix Haug (7 & under) on parralel bars, rings and floor and Kyle Cubitt (7 & under) on high bar and vault.
