Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed on to star in and produce a new zombie film, Maggie.

According to a report in Variety, the former governor of California will appear as a father on a journey to help his daughter come to terms with her infection as she slowly becomes a zombie.

The movie takes place in a world where a virus has spread across the US and left the planet in a state of apocalyptic chaos.

Maggie will be directed by Henry Hobson and production is expected to begin this autumn.

The Terminator actor has recently signed on for a number of other projects, marking his return to acting following his political career.

Earlier this week, Schwarzenegger confirmed that he will return to the Terminator franchise for a new film next year.

“I’m very happy that the studios want me to be in Terminator 5 and to star as the Terminator, which we start shooting in January 2014,” he said.
