We have all been there, trying on clothes in a dressing room only to feel depressed after catching a glimpse of our reflection in those awful unflattering three-panel mirrors.
We end up frustrated, bawling our eyes out, panicking and swearing off chocolates for good.
Then we blame the lighting or the mirror. Sometimes, we even go as far as asking the sales assistant: “Is this a smaller make because I swear I’m a size two.”
Why don’t you save yourself the stress and pick up a few dresses ahead of time for situations such as this. It is way better to be prepared and confident.
Marks and Spencer just re-opened its Seef Mall location. I joined reporter Mai Al Khatib-Camille scouring the store and focused on the new autumn/winter lines.
Mai’s favourite was a sleeveless mid-thigh length dress with Aztec print running down the centre of a stretch material that was soft to the touch.
I was a big fan of a dual-coloured blue dress with a cream ruffled top. The display paired the dress with matching blue patent high heels that were super cute. All the dresses hovered around the BD25 mark. A great price for the quality and there were so many to choose from.
Later I popped into Mango and admired its long-length gowns for BD37. On a tall-dress rack hung a beautiful strapless black velvet and lace gown for only BD37. If you are not a fan of wearing strapless dresses they had a rack of long-length sleeveless in either all white with lace, white and black or cream lace over white with slim belts. These tresses were gorgeous with solid stitching and luxurious material.
My favourite pick, which receives ‘Deal of the Week’ was a smart little dress with a sheer red tartan print over a slinky shell for only BD22. It even had a tassel. The catwalk is full of tartan prints this autumn/winter.
It is that time of year that you may need some extra warmth on the extremities when wearing evening attire. Calzedonia just opened in Seef Mall and it specialises in hosiery.
Calzedonia is an Italian hosiery brand founded in 1986 close to Verona, in Valese di Oppeano and now boasts more than 1,650 shops. They carry everything ‘hosiery’ and you will find opaque, net or sheer stockings, knee-high socks, low waist and even shaping compression tights.
Calzedonia will show you there is a science to shaping and you can nip and tuck to give the illusion of ‘slim and trim’ with prices ranging from BD2.5 upwards. They had so many colours, prints and styles. This is a ‘must-stop-and-see’ shop.
