Gulf Weekly Wrap-up for winter!

There is nothing like warming up in a nice sweater or jacket when it is cold outside and, being Canadian, in order to keep warm in the winter it was the wardrobe staple.

Jack Frost determined what you wore and he was not forgiving. I tell my children that they are lucky they do not have to wear ski-doo pants (trousers) to school and avoid the embarrassing ‘swish swish’ noise they would make walking the hallways.

For those that don’t know, ski pants are trousers worn to keep warm while skiing but are worn in very cold climates whenever going outdoors for long periods of time. I also tell them they are avoiding going knee deep in the ‘white stuff’ while risking freezing off a limb. However, I get all nostalgic wrapping up in wool and heading out when Bahrain gets a wee bit chilly.

I stopped into Red Tag to check out their winter collection and was happy to see a lot of cozy options.

Since the winter season is short in Bahrain you do not need to spend a lot of money. Right now they have a ‘must have’ campaign and the prices are amazing. Buy men’s hoodies and cotton track suit bottoms in a variety of colours, two for only BD7.9. They also have varsity hoodies, two for BD8.9, with trendy ‘college’ colours like mustard with grey, red, navy, white and green.

Women can find a ‘must have’ deal as well. I spotted two for BD7.9 in plaids that came in teal, purple or fuchsia. Ladies crested cropped jackets adorned with double buttons and rounded lapels are going for two for BD89 as well. Cool prices for the cool weather.

Best deal for women: Striped scoop-neck turtle necks in muted orange, burgundy and purple - two for only BD5.9
Best deal for men: Retro 1980s sweaters with built-in scarfs in mustard, grey and navy or navy, orange and red, two for only BD 8.9

FMH Boutique in Nakheel Centre is holding a 50 per cent off sale on selected items. I found a few really unique sweaters made from a Danish brand called Modstrom. This ‘florry striped’ navy, burned orange, pink and burgundy cardigan would look great with a pair of skinny jeans and high boots.

Throw a scarf around the neck and you have a dynamic look. This sweater is regularly BD55 but is down to BD27.500 with the discount. I also noticed some chic pieces from various international brands.

Frugal shoppers should step into Geant because they are prepared to sell you a bargain with a full wall of winter gear. I noticed bomber jackets with faux fur hoods in plum, black and burgundy for amazing prices.

Biker jackets in red, black and cobalt blue and there were military-style car coats in grey. You can choose from an assortment of scarfs to match and long cardigans and sweaters to wrap around you on cool nights on dining in a five-star restaurant that insists on having its air-conditioning units pelting out chills.

What caught my eye was the mannequin on display adorned with a quilted shiny black bomber jacket with a fur hood for only BD13.290.

Piccadilly shoe update:  It has been well over a week-and-a-half and I am still wearing my favourite metallic-pink sandals compliments of Piccadilly.

My feet never feel fatigued or sore after a long day of work here at GulfWeekly. They were at a really great price for the quality offered. The shoes are very light and have a gel lining that feels soft on the feet and, luckily, particularly during those hot mid-day temperatures, boast high levels of absorption, which ensures your tootsies stay dry.
