The mystery of who (or what) has been killing the Editor’s fish has been uncovered.
Placed in a tank on his desk to prevent our scribe from scaring the reception staff by constantly hitting it with frustration on deadline day and scattering the contents of his tidy box of pens around the office, the calming influence of the fish had the desired effect. But tranquillity was soon replaced by the sound of fury when they started to die … one by one.
The Editor was convinced that the evening cleaning crew was out to get him for raising his voice as they mopped around his highly-polished shoes and he even threatened to install CCTV cameras to catch the killers in the act.
The latest recruits, Mai, a bug-eyed goldfish and Charlie, a bottom feeder, looked in danger of following their predecessors until it was discovered that the tank’s pump was sucking them in by the gills. The poor fish had been dying of exhaustion trying to swim against the tide.
The pump has been switched off and Mai and Charlie are now thriving. However, sometimes the Editor arrives in the morning to find the killer pump mysteriously turned back on … he still suspects the cleaners.
