As the winter months approach, you can expect to play golf in wet weather conditions like last week. It is important that you prepare correctly and make sure you look at weather forecasts before heading out.
When it is raining, make sure you have suitable footwear. I would recommend having soft spikes in your golf shoes as this will prevent you from slipping and will also stabilise you when hitting your shots.
A rain glove is an excellent item to have in your golf bag as this will help you keep a secure hold of the club as it gets wetter. Also, make sure you have waterproof clothing – once the skin becomes wet, you will start to feel cold which will reduce the movement in your body.
Wearing a baseball hat will also shield your face and head from the rain. This will keep your head warm and if you wear glasses, it will help keep the lenses clear.
The golf course itself will become more receptive when the ball lands, so make sure you have plenty of club for the yardage of each shot.
Remember, the ball will not roll forward as much as usual so the ball flight will be all carry to the target. Bunkers will have wet sand in them so be aware that there will be less resistance when hitting from this area.
A good tip is to reduce the amount of effort into the ball but still making sure you have acceleration through the shot.
Remember, if you fail to prepare for the rain then prepare to fail on the course.
