Did you know that health does not start at the dining table? It doesn’t even start in the kitchen, health starts at the supermarket.
So, my advice for this week is for the decision-maker in the family, the person who is responsible for buying the groceries.
First of all, do not shop while hungry,
because you’ll end up buying all the wrong things.
Second, you must put a detailed shopping
list that outlines just the things you need. This way you will not be buying blindly and will not be subject to spur of the moment impulse buying (which is usually unhealthy). Of course, you have to make sure that your shopping list has healthy items.
Third, shop the perimeters of the supermarket. Why? Let me explain.
Most supermarkets have the same layout. They put the fruit and vegetables, meats, grains, beans and pulses, and drinks
all laid out at the edges. All processed and sweet products are in the inner isles.
So when you shop, stay on the outer isles and you’ll find that your shopping will become healthier without much effort or thinking.
