Gulf Weekly New campus set to open

The New Millennium School - DPS Bahrain’s (NMS-DPS) vision to nurture responsible global citizens is becoming a reality as it officially unveils its innovative state-of-the-art campus in Zinj to students and faculty tomorrow.
The 15,659sq/m campus, which opened its doors in April last year, will be inaugurated by Education Minister Dr Majid Al Nuaimi.

The BD6 million school, which caters to more than 2,000 students, is a result of more than 50 years of educational experience by the Delhi Public School Society (DPS).

The new infrastructure features fully-equipped sporting facilities, 80 high-tech classrooms for all years from kindergarten to grade 12, a 14-metre high multipurpose hall, swimming pool and two-level car park with 158 parking spaces.

Principal Arun Kuumar Sharma is thankful to the new management team for making all this possible.

Mr Sharma said: “The school witnessed a sudden leap to success when new management took over in August 2008. Dr Ravi Pillai (Padmashree Awardee) made sure that no stone went unturned and the result was outstanding.

“Dr Pillai, chairman of R P Group of Companies, is a well-known business leader and renowned philanthropist who believes that a better world can be made only by better education.

“The new campus provides ample facilities for students to not only pursue academic excellence but to also explore their co-scholastic potential.

“We believe that personal growth and character development are the foundation of a successful and independent life. Students are therefore, through Life Skills lessons, helped to develop personal qualities such as self-esteem, self-discipline, integrity, honesty, responsibility, sociability and personal wellness for healthy living.”

The curriculum, activities, systems and the entire ethos of NMS - DPS is designed to make the children discover themselves. The syllabus is centered on learning by doing and is designed to develop the rational and analytical faculties of young children.

To make that possible, each classroom is equipped with a smart board, known as a magic board, and an interactive projector aided by IYC interactive learning and content management software system.

Teachers can now load their lessons onto the machines from the learning management software. They will no longer have to draw diagrams or write on boards as everything can be uploaded on the ‘magic board’.

Each student and parent is also provided with an individual login ID and password to enable them to interact and share information with the faculty. Now parents are able to monitor the progress of their children using the new software.

The school’s website will be making parents lives a lot easier, starting this month, as it will enable them to register their children online.

In terms of amenities, NMS houses an indoor swimming pool (925mx12m) fit for competitions, a gymnasium with a basketball and volleyball court, a table tennis court, a football ground for seniors and juniors, eight badminton courts, a cricket pitch, an athletic track and well equipped laboratories and libraries. There are also dance and music suites as well as facilities to stage yoga, meditation and martial arts classes.

All key areas including classrooms are equipped with CCTV cameras to ensure the safety and security of the students.

Mr Sharma said: “Under the leadership of Dr Pillai, Geetha Pillai, the managing director, and with the continuous efforts of the parents, staff and students, the school is bound to reach many milestones in the future. We believe that the possibilities are endless.”
