The Royal Golf Club’s 2013 captains, Ebrahim Esbai and Hanne Hansen, presented Christine Hasan, founder of the RIA Centre, with a donation of BD350. RIA was the chosen charity for the duration of the pair’s captaincy and the sum was raised the past year by charging golfers an optional BD1 every time their ball landed in a bunker on the 18th fairway of the club’s Montgomerie championship course.
“RIA is a worthwhile institution that believes in providing education to all,” said Hansen. “The centre provides education, rehabilitation and support to youngsters with special educational needs and their families as well as offering mainstream education for nursery age children.”
This year’s lady captain Dena Wales will continue to support RIA by running the same ‘charity bunker’ programme alongside other fund-raising activities. Gent’s captain Stephen Wagstaff will be supporting Bahrain Down Syndrome Society as his chosen charity.
“I would like to thank all the members and guests of the Royal Golf Club for this generous donation to RIA,” said Hasan during the presentation ceremony. “We rely on the support of local organisations to allow us to continue to provide quality education and facilities for children of all ages and abilities.”
