The annual Crown Prince’s Cup golf tournament is all set to tee off at the Royal Golf Club (RGC), recently named Troon Golf’s 2013 Facility of the Year, the golf management company’s highest accolade.

The pairs matchplay competition will take place on Saturday, featuring an amalgamated team of 24 competitors from the Royal and Awali golf clubs taking on the might of a Bahrain Golf Club team.

“The competition will be tough as many of Bahrain Golf Club’s players represent Bahrain’s national team but we are confident of putting up a good defence,” said Bernie Morgan, RGC’s director of golf.

The competition will be played across the RGC’s 18-hole Montgomerie championship course with six ‘A team’ matches consisting of players with a handicap of 10 or less and six ‘B team’ matches for golfers with higher handicaps.

“The traditions of this competition go back 34 years,” said Awali Golf Club captain Steve Brown. “Historically this event was contested between Bahrain Golf Club and Awali Golf Club as the only two golf clubs in Bahrain. With the opening of the Royal Golf Club grass course, it has become a joint Royal/Awali team versus the Bahrain team.”

A prize giving ceremony will take place in Awali’s clubhouse at the concludsion of the event.
