Bapco players braved cloudy, dark skies and rain at the Awali Golf Club on Saturday to vie for the Bapco Inter-Departmental trophy.
The contest, with a team-Stableford format for company employees of any handicap, has been present in the club’s annual list of fixtures since 1956-57. In addition to the Bapco-only competition, a simultaneous club Stableford competition was held for members who are not employees.
Bapco acting chief executive Adel Al Moayyed awarded the prizes as ‘Refining’ with Adel Al Moayyed, Mark Hodgkinson, Paul Anderson and David Starkie won the tournament with 128 points. Two teams were hot on their heels with 127 points: Security comprising of Adel Al Gaoud, Hussain Salem, Nasser Eid and Reuben San Miguel claimed runners-up spot with Medical represented by Richard Loker, Petri Kettunen, Lynn St Lawrence and Essa Al Qutami losing on countback.
The club Stableford competition was won by Roberta Trzebinski scoring 42 points and receiving a 2-shot handicap cut to compliment her first-place prize. Yoy Young was the highest placed non-handicapper with 24 points.
