THERE cannot be many things more rewarding for a teacher than to hear of a former pupil excelling in their chosen field and making mention of your efforts when glory is bestowed upon them.

Expat Caroline Hendy joined the Japan Karate Association – Bahrain’s dojo to learn the martial art and impressed Ehab Eshehawi, chairman and chief instructor. “She trained with us for a few years and had such precision for kata,” he recalls.

Caroline left Bahrain to return home to Australia and continued training to become one of the sharpest students in her age group. She recently won a major championship and trophy to become Junior Female Open Kata champion and in a magazine feature which followed she said Sensei Ehab had the ‘greatest influence of all’ in her development of focus throughout her karate.

The respect is mutual. Sensi Ehab told The Whisperer: “We are very proud of Caroline.”
