Gulf Weekly Write to the editor

It is with great sadness that I write of the peaceful passing of Chef Frank Gocht, on March 8, in Wellington, New Zealand, surrounded by his family.

Born on June 3, 1965, in Yonkers, New York, Frank was raised in Cologne, Germany, by his grandparents until his parents returned from working in America.

A former Executive Chef at the Gulf Hotel, Bahrain, Frank fought a truly courageous battle against Motor Neuron Disease, with humour and great candor.

It was an honour for me to work with him these past months as his editor and I will miss the many chuckles we had together.

His family, wife Neisha and daughters Yasmine, 14, and Giuliana, 10, would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes at this difficult time and invite you to view his Facebook page, Motor Neuron Disease & Me and blog www.simplygocht.com

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Frank’s life at 10am on March 16 at their home.

I will probably help to organise a low-key event in Bahrain at midday on the same day - details yet to be confirmed.

In lieu of flowers, donations to help the Gocht Family will be gratefully accepted. Please email gochtgourmet@gmail.com for account details.

The Bahrain Yacht Club has announced the dates for its most highly-anticipated sailing event of the year, the Spring Regatta. The Regatta, which promises to unite members of the sailing community as well as the boating and water sports enthusiasts from all around the island, will be held on April 25 and 26.

The regatta will be an open day at the club and non-members are welcome to join in the fun. A wide variety of activities will be running throughout the day, in addition to a delicious beach barbecue as well as live music.

The regatta promises to be a fun day out for all the family and the live action out on the water will be fed back to the shore.

The races taking place over the course of the two-day regatta are as follows:
* Multihull Fleet (Hobies)
* Dinghy Fleet
* Keelboat Fleet – Fast Fleet
* Keelboat Fleet – Slow fleet
* Youth fleet – Under 18s

For information on how to register for the races, contact 1770067 or email info@thebahrainyachtclub.com

Your recent article on Dr Ali Abdulnabi Mohamed made very interesting and positive reading.
The Rotary Club of Adliya is currently running a programme recognising the achievements of certain people in Bahrain.

Rotary would be very interested in recognising the achievements of Dr Ali with a small meeting in his honour and a monetary gift in recognition.

Could you please forward his contact details so we may get in touch with him?

Rupert Hearn, by email.

Editor’s note: We have forwarded the details.
