Safety awards joy for Alba
Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) were the recent recipients of two top international safety awards – one from the US and the other from the UK – a testimony to the company’s commitment and efforts taken towards ensuring workplace safety.

The company was the proud winner of the 2014 Gold Award for Occupational Health and Safety from the UK-based Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and the 2014 Occupational Excellence Achievement Award run by the National Safety Council – USA.

The RoSPA awards recognise health and safety success for over 50 years. This key fixture in the health and safety calendar offers organisations with a prime opportunity to prove their ongoing commitment to maintaining and raising health and safety standards.

The US award is granted to organisations that meet strict criterions based on the results in their safety performance in accordance with the OSHA requirements in the USA. Alba won the award based on the great reduction in its injury rates during 2013.

Chief executive Tim Murray said: “We believe that ownership of safety is everyone’s responsibility, We also believe that the improvement in safety performance is directly linked to increased employee productivity. Winning the ‘2014 Occupational Excellence Achievement Award’ is a matter of pride for Alba as it recognises the success of our safety principles.”

On winning the UK award chief financial officer Ali Al Baqali said: “Alba is truly honoured to receive this global accolade from the RoSPA, which clearly indicates that our safety efforts are being recognised internationally. Employee safety and health will always be our top priority; we remain committed to work towards achieving global safety and standards for the benefit of our employees.”

RoSPA’s awards manager David Rawlins said: “The RoSPA Awards encourage the raising of occupational health and safety standards across the board. Organisations that gain recognition for their health and safety management systems, such as Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C, contribute to a collective raising of the bar for other organisations to aspire to, and we offer them our congratulations.”
