Riffa Views International School (RVIS) hosted a leading Junior Varsity Volleyball tournament at their school campus.

As a member and contributor of the prestigious international school athletic league, Oasis Activities Conference (OAC), RVIS hosted the first junior varsity Oasis tournament of the 2014-2015 season.

The OAC is a new activities conference organised by international schools in the MENA region. As hosts of the tournament, RVIS welcomed 140 students aged 14 and 15 and coaches from seven international schools in the region including Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and UAE.

The international league provides opportunities for students, of both the junior varsity and varsity level, to travel overseas and participate in various competitive athletic tournaments and recreational events, such as soccer, basketball, track & field, cross country, music and the visual and performing arts.

The RVIS JV team performed well in both the boys and girls side of the tournament, losing a closely contested eliminator for third place, whilst the boys went one step further and won their third place game.

The RVIS girls were awarded the highly-coveted sportsmanship award, which is given to the team that has shown the greatest level of fair play, and has also gone out of their way to make new friends and build relationships with the travelling schools.

The American School of Abu Dhabi won the girls’ championship, while Universal American School of Dubai won the boys’ championship. During the awards ceremony, commendations were given for the ‘All-Conference’ team, which was voted on by the players. RVIS had two students commended for their participation – Walt Knuppel and Latifa Al Khalifa.

RVIS students are scheduled to take part in the next round of OAC events that will take place in Cyprus in the new year.
