Awali Golf Club hosted the stamina-testing Russell & Memorial Trophy played over 36 holes.

The long-running competition awards the Russell Cup and prizes to those with the best aggregate gross score, while the Memorial Trophy and prizes are awarded to those with the best aggregate net score.

As prizes for the gross scores are not common for normal club contests, this event attracts low handicap players not regularly seen competing at Awali.

The events were sponsored by Bapco and prizes were presented by its chief executive Peter Bartlett.

A closely-fought battle saw Hamed Salem demonstrating his consistent, quality play to win the Russell Cup with a total of 142 gross (72, 70) edging out sibling Khalid into runner-up position with 143 gross (71, 72). Close on the brothers’ heels, Ebrahim Al Hashel took third place with 144 (71/73), Diab Sagar Al Noaimi in fourth place also with 144 (70/74). Medals were presented to those with the best gross on each day: Al Noaimi on day one with 70 and Hamad Salem for day 2 with 70.

Abdulla Sultan Faraj won the Memorial Trophy with a net 130 (65/65), runner-up,  Hamed Salem 134 (68/66), third place went to Reynaldo Alejandro 134 (64/70). Prizes were also presented for the best net score on each day; Reynaldo Alejandro winning for day 1 (64) and Anurag Bajaj claiming the prize for day 2 (65).
