The Dilmun Riding Stables held an in-house pairs showjumping competition, which is always a lot of fun, on National Day. The initial line-up of eight pairs swelled after swopping combinations to a total of 15!

Taking top podium position was Basel Aldossari astride Mannie, with partner Ward riding Cortez – not bad for the first time riding the horse. As usual, the event is assisted by audience participation with supporters eager to alert riders about their partners’ fate.

The next day, Twin Palms Riding Centre held a pony camp covering practical and theoretical aspects of pony care. A fabulous morning which kept many a pony-mad child entertained giving mum some peace and quiet or an excuse for some last-minute Christmas shopping.

On Thursday, Twin Palms Riding Centre held their annual in-house Christmas Gymkhana with sack race, barrel race, walk/ trot/ canter and run as well as kiss the pony on the nose, ribbon race, potato and spoon race and, of course, a visit from Santa. A lovely afternoon leaving everyone in the Christmas spirit.

The following day Dilmun Riding Stables hosted an in-house Christmas fancy dress dressage, sponsored by Jerri Taylor. Children and adults took great care and delight in their costumes, many deciding on attire before they had even looked at the dressage tests. The Introductory A and Preliminary 18 were judged by Elaine Galbraith of Twin Palms Riding Centre, who did an excellent job of deciphering who was who in their stunning costumes.

Meanwhile, the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (BREEF) will be holding a meeting today at the federation HQ to discuss ideas and recommendations.

The BREEF also issued minutes of the Show Jumping Community Meeting held on November 27. For details, email breefshowjumping@gmail.com

In brief, only five riders will be allowed in the warm-up arena during each class entering in order of their start for practice. Proposal for organising a dressage event, green horse or HC will be accepted in the first junior class at an event, but they are not eligible to compete in any other class on that date.

On the proposal to expand the show jumping facility to the Bahrain International Endurance Village, riders must inform the chief steward of any withdrawals. A social committee has been proposed to introduce entertainment activities and a marketing committee formed to advertise the events.

An invitation has been extended to support the show jumping with rider/stake-holder contributions, sponsorship of the event or a class within. A strategy has been introduced to invite volunteers for the community to be trained as judges/ stewards/ time-keepers/ commentators and officials. There are also proposals to organise clinics with top riders/ trainers from the region.

The BREEF will be hosting their National Day Show Jumping Championship this Saturday from 9am to 4pm.  There will be five classes culminating in the Grand Prix.

There will also be a fashion show by Horse Pride and activities such as henna painting, face painting as well as games for children and families.
