FASHIONISTAS will be in full form this Formula One weekend and crowds will be honouring their favourite race teams with full passion and flare in Sakhir. Of course, there will be the fashionably feeble who will either overdo it or not bother at all.
Follow these guidelines to be well prepared for the event: * Comfortable is key: Fortunately, Spring/Summer 2015 footwear trends are now friendly to the feet and centre around flashy trainers and slider flats. Keep the tower heels at home to avoid stiletto suffering, if you absolutely need the height then opt for platforms or blocky heels that are groovy and down with the 1970s trend. Keep cool in a breezy bohemian dress and short suede boots.
* Build your wardrobe: The first day is for the practice session so you can dress more casually – think a smart-fitting denim paired with a lacey crop or a race tee and a matching team cap. The second day is qualifying so you can dress a bit more formal with a wide-leg jumpsuit, a geometric print dress or an off-the-shoulder boho. Save your best outfit for race day.
* Hand bags: It’s amazing what a woman can fit into her handbag and most will try to bring everything from their make-up counter so keep it light and pack only the essentials: sunscreen, lip balm, lip-stain to keep the colour on, facial blotting wipes, wet-wipes, eye-drops, mini-hairspray, small compacts (powder and eye-shadow retouch), hair tie and mini-sewing kits for wardrobe mishaps. Think the modern miniature backpack to keep both hands free so you are not fiddling with your purse and its contents all the time.
* Weather: Forecasters suggest sunshine and maybe a bit of dust? We will only know the weather for sure this weekend. I suggest you come prepared by bringing a hat and shades for the sun and a light jacket. Think denim, chic unlined trench coat or a floral jacquard bomber jacket for a welcome edge. Try out the trendy boater hat with pair of no-fail retro shades available everywhere now.
* Racing gear: If you plan on wearing a racing suit do us all a favour and make sure it fits you. You do not want to end up as a viral meme so ask a friend if it fits. l Hair: Bring a headband, head scarf and hair ties in case there are gusts of wind. Don’t go all out and get an up-do that may turn into a weather-born ‘blowout’.
* White at Night: Spring’s trend of all white is fabulous for the night race. Pair a chiffon white blouse and a tailored trouser for a sophisticated elegance. Throw on red lipstick and a leather race jacket for the ‘I know I’m hot’ finishing touch. l F1 Style Guide for the Gents: Sak’s Fifth Avenue had some really trendy menswear that would make for a ‘boss’ F1 entrance with the boys.
Grab a pair of True Religion brand denim paired with a graphic flame tee and an uber cool race jacket from Moschino. Fashion is not just for the ladies.
