Gulf Weekly Medal for Mujali

Atiq Mujali emerged triumphant in the Bud-Lite Medal competition, sponsored by BMMI, at the Awali Golf Club on Friday.

Mujali and Hamad Fares Al Qutami both came home with net 66, but the former achieved the overall winner honours (gross-73) whilst Al Qutami secured the overall runner-up slot, losing on countback (gross-71). Al Qutami had a slight consolation as he also received the medal for best gross score for the day.

Prizes were presented on BMMI’s behalf by master of ceremonies and Club Captain Abdul Elah Fakhroo.

Others in the prizes were: Flight-1: 1st Ali Musbah (nett-69/gross-72), 2nd Abdulla Mubarak (69/77) with Salem Khalifa (69/75), Salah Al Shaer (69/78) and Peter Rogers (69/80) losing on countback. Flight-2: 1st Sarah Hobday (67/86), 2nd Gerry McDermott (67/83). Flight-3: 1st Richard Timmis (69/89), 2nd Silvia Ring (70/106).

Fakhroo also highlighted a subtle change, of sentimental value, that had taken place on the course. At the beginning of the 1987/88 season, the tee for the 7th hole was moved to its current location and a palm tree planted in the location of the old tee box. At this time, the club’s logo was also changed: the new logo dominated by a graphic of a palm tree, apparently in recognition of this change. Unfortunately, the palm tree has been dying over the last year.

The club captain was applauded for having recently organised the planting of a replacement tree, enabling the club to better justify continued use of its logo.
