THE Consolation Cup & Cup-winners Cup, the last 18-hole competition of Awali Golf Club’s season, was held on the cherished sand course.

Billed as the final chance for those wishing to get their name on the clubhouse honours boards, those who had not demonstrated enough golfing competence to have been an outright winner over the season were eligible for the Consolation Cup.

Susan Scott, obviously saving her season’s best for last, romped home as a clear winner with a nett-63, four shots ahead of Reynaldo Alejandro.

Results: 1st Susan Scott (nett 63/gross 85), 2nd Reynaldo Alejandro (67/84), 3rd Les Young (68/96), 4th Peter O’Brien (69/75), 5th Gerry McDermott (69/85), 6th Onny Martin (70/87).

Meanwhile, players who had achieved victory in an earlier event were included in the Cup-winners Cup competition. Fittingly, these players are reminded that their egos should be kept in check, the trophy being the club’s smallest.
Following his win in the Gents Handicapped Singles Match-play Knockout, Peter Rogers, the club’s oldest player at a spritely 77, sealed his season as the Cup-winners Cup winner with a score of nett-69 (gross 80).

Jostling for the accolade with the same nett score but losing on countback were both Joan Martin (gross-99) and Richard Timmis (gross-89). Rogers was also presented with the trophy and prize for his match-play success rather than at the forthcoming Annual Presentation Dinner-Dance, as he is returning to his UK base for the summer.

As part of the post-golf formalities, Club Captain Abdul Elah Fakhroo made a presentation of funds that had been collected from members and sponsors for the Captain’s Charity.

Fakhroo’s chosen charity was the Friendship Society for the Blind, and he presented a cheque to its general manager, Ali Haji.
