Never up, never in!

ONE of the most frustrating feelings on the green is when you have carefully lined up your putt, gone through your pre-shot routine, stroked the putt and looked up in horror to find the ball short of the hole!

In my 30 years of golf, I have yet to see a ball that has not reached the hole actually fall in.

Practice five-foot putts, but place a club shaft across the line about a foot short of the hole. Hit the putt hard enough to get over the shaft and don’t worry if the ball does not go in, as it will probably deflect offline.

The object of the exercise is to groove an accelerating stroke, so all your putts can reach the hole with enough speed to go in.
