Gulf Weekly Youth Talk - Have we lost our musical mojo?

From the Beatles to One Direction we have had many musical extremes in the past 50 years, however, several surveys online have led people to believe that music is now too commercialised in the mainstream charts.

My friends and I have placed our musical interests outside of the mainstream demographic. By contrast some people might spend all their money on similar sounding songs that consists of the same material and calling it musical art.

One of the top songs in the charts at the moment is ‘What do you mean?’ by the vocally talented Justin Bieber, however, many would dispute against his lack of creativity in songs – given he finds it hard not to go two minutes without mentioning ‘baby’ in his lyrics.

The very idea of Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus leaves a bland taste in many mouths. As a result, people are straying away from the typical artists and are looking for more interesting talent. Luckily, I have found the pop duo Twenty One Pilots, artists who keep to the idea of diversity in their songs and make each one as good as the other.

With amazing lyrics, Twenty One Pilots are an example of how music can be independent and still be awesome at the same time.

Don’t worry everyone, whether its Justin, Miley or Twenty One Pilots I think we still have our mojo for now.
