The Bahrain British Business Forum (BBBF) will hold its annual charity Poppy Ball at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Friday, November 6. This popular event is being held in collaboration with the British Business Association from the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. One of the highlights at the Poppy Ball is the attendance of The Chelsea Pensioners.

This year, the BBBF will host three Chelsea pensioners. During their visit, they will attend many functions, including school visits, British Embassy functions and visits to local places of interests. The highlight of the visit will be laying a wreath at a memorial service to mark Remembrance Day and as VIP Guests of Honour at the Poppy Ball.

The Poppy Ball will commence at 7pm with a welcome reception and a buffet dinner, followed by a DJ from 9.30pm till late. Dress code is evening or cocktail dresses for ladies and dinner suits with black ties or national dress for gents.

The Chelsea Pensioners visits to Bahrain have become an annual event and this would not be possible without the support of local businesses, including this year’s main sponsors British Airways, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Gulf Brands International and Euro Motors.

Tickets for the Poppy Ball cost BD30 for all. All proceeds raised from this event will go to the Chelsea Pensioners & Poppy Scotland Appeal and The Children and Mothers Welfare Society Bahrain. The society has been a pioneer of voluntary work in the kingdom since 1953 and it has played a prominent role in the empowerment and uplifting of women and children.

Tickets can be purchased from the British Club reception desk (17728245), or The Bookcase in Budaiya (17690566), or from the main reception at Bahrain Rugby Football Club. For more details or to reserve a table, please contact the BBBF office at (bbbfevents@batelco.com.bh) or (17813488).

The event is celebrated around the world to raise funds for the Chelsea Pensioners Appeal, a UK charity that provides support to war veterans. The Chelsea Pensioners – as they have commonly become known due to their residence in the Royal Hospital in Chelsea – fall under the auspices of the Royal British Legion, a UK charity that provides financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served and are currently serving in the armed forces and their dependants.

Khalid Al Zayani, chairman of the Bahrain British Business Forum.

Editor’s note: The BBBF was set up in 1995 and has grown from the original 16 members to over 450 members today. It aims to promote trade and investment between Bahrain and Great Britain in a non-discriminatory, non-political and non-profit making manner.

We are now in the final preparation stages for the 18th American Mission Hospital (AMH) Island Classic Charity Golf Tournament to be held on the Kings Private Golf Course in Saffriya on November 12, 13 & 14. Once again this prestigious event promises to be an exciting three days of golf for all concerned.

The tournament will be followed on the Thursday by the Island Classic Award Gala Dinner to be held at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa.

With the special endorsement of His Majesty King Hamad, the Island Classic is one of the most eminent and significant fundraising events on the island enabling AMH to buy much-needed medical equipment as well as support our community outreach programmes. We are a not-for-profit organisation ensuring the most vulnerable in our community have access to high quality, affordable healthcare at all times.

We would like to thank our very generous sponsors, ongoing and new, for showing such huge support for this very worthy cause.
