The month of October is awash with pink and here on the island it’s everywhere! Everyone from all walks of life, the young, the elderly, all cultures and religions are being exposed to the informative Think Pink Bahrain campaign.

Think Pink has become a global success in raising awareness of breast cancer. The month-long campaign highlights the signs and symptoms of the disease, along with fundraising events to generate funds to help local women.

There’s no excuse not to get involved with so many ongoing fun events throughout this period. Golf tournaments, walk-a-thons, beach parties, zumba classes, lunches and dinners … the choice is yours.

I have discovered the Think Pink Bahrain website (www.thinkpinkbahrain.com), which you can also follow on Facebook and Instagram, take a look!

It can be daunting for some expat women to go for a routine mammogram or health check, especially living in another country, it’s unfamiliar and you may feel out of your comfort zone.

A dear expat friend of mine felt that way and would make a promise to herself to do it the next time she was home but, of course, never did. This year she found herself and her family being repatriated back to the UK and whilst registering with a local doctor, found herself 20 years later finally having those checks. Sadly, malignant cells were discovered. She was fortunate and after successful treatment made a full recovery.

Don’t wait, remember your self-examinations and if you are due a mammogram or health check, make that appointment today. It’s easy, I did it recently at the AMH (American Mission Hospital) in Manama, where the staff members were wonderful.

Well done, Think Pink Bahrain!
