Introductions are important. The
initial exchange of personal details and information is more often than not crucial in establishing the future of any
relationship.
Quite unfortunately, I’ve never been very good at them, for three main reasons:
a) half the readers have probably spent about five minutes trying to figure out how to pronounce my name.
b) not many people can guess where I’m actually from.
c) I find it difficult to answer the previous question.
So here goes, I’m Rushil Puri. I’m a Y12 student at St Christopher’s School and I’ve lived in Bahrain for 13 years.
Growing up in this social potpourri has enhanced my awareness of other cultures as well as nurtured my passion for
travel.
I’ve visited five of the six continents and aim to continue journeying to even more countries, in the near or distant
future.
My travels abroad have in turn inspired a passion towards linguistics. I currently speak three languages fluently and
have knowledge of completely random phrases in 10 additional languages.
Binge-watching TV shows is another frequent habit of mine, with seven separate shows currently on my playlist.
Living in this country has allowed me to experience a very unique lifestyle. Bahrain is a tightrope connecting ancient
traditions with fast-paced modernity.
I have long grown accustomed to the sight of souqs with skyscrapers in the backdrop, amongst many unusual sights.
Therefore, I am delighted to be providing a different perspective to life on this small island, as well as speak for the
often-unheard youth.
