GULFWEEKLY’S dynamic duo Zahid Balooshi and
Kristian Harrison proved victorious in the inaugural Bahrain Media FootGolf
Championship 2016.
They powered to victory just one shot ahead
of runners-up Neil Mahmood and Greg Hughes of FACT & Oh La La magazines
(Nans Group) with a steady 36 finish over nine holes. Assistant editor Balooshi
and reporter Harrison were coached by editor Stan Szecowka and managed to avoid
sinking any shots into the lake where his golf balls normally end up.
The Royal Golf Club’s tournament
coordinator Adam Dutson handed the pair each with prize dining vouchers of a
Sunday roast-for-two at the Links Restaurant.
Although seasoned footballers, both
Balooshi and Harrison were making their FootGolf debuts and found the
increasingly-popular sport, in which participants play the golf course and try
to place the ball in buckets in the lowest number of kicks possible,
‘challenging’.
“We’re over the moon!” said battling
Balooshi. Happy Harrison added: “It’s the first time I’ve ever won anything.”
The efforts impressed Dutson. He said: “The
GulfWeekly team displayed dogged determination and a fair amount of fancy
footwork to secure the victory, obviously wisely listening to their experienced
coach and mentor. A well-deserved victory and no doubt they’ll be gunning to
keep hold of the prestigious title in next year’s competition.”
