Preparations for National Day celebrations are well underway at our campus in Hamala.

The Infant School Arabic Department, for example, opened a ‘Freej Al-Taybeen’ Exhibition in the school gallery. There was an air of nostalgia as guests toured what felt like a street in Bahrain 40 years ago.

Children in traditional dress played street games. There was a fish stall, an ice seller, a fruit and vegetable stall and a plethora of herbs and spices. The attention to detail was phenomenal, right down to the oldest brands of crisps and shampoo in the ‘cold-store’.

I can only say that of all the events I have enjoyed at the school over the years, this is one which gives us a glimpse of true magic. From the moment I entered the street I could feel the love, care and dedication that had gone into creating it. It was a real example of excellence and we applaud the Arabic team for their endeavours.

Although the participants and visitors felt as if they had stepped back in time for the morning, the event was recorded in true 21st century style! A ‘mannequin challenge’ recording is being displayed on the school’s multimedia screens.

The exhibition will remain open until National Day and parents at the school are invited to come and see it either at the beginning or at the end of the school day.

Mrs Julie Anne Gilbert, BSB Head of School.
