Dream way to dry

WHEN it comes to hair, men are lucky.

They can go to any barber and spend one dinar on a shave and a neck massage, whereas women have to shell out around BD50 to get a decent blow dry let alone cut, colour and style.

The worst part is that by the time the festive season rolls around we’ve already emptied out our bank accounts on purchasing the perfect dress for a New Year’s bash, along with matching stilettos and sparkly accessories that we are left with nothing to spare on our luscious locks.

Ladies have no fear as hair maestro Asgar Saboo, stylist to stars such as Cindy Crawford, Eva Longoria, Katrina Kaif and Aishwarya Rai- Bachchan, has a fool proof do-it-yourself festive blow dry that will make your tresses look like a million dinars without really costing a thing.

  • Prep and perfect Pre-drying your hair helps you achieve that sought after ‘salon bounce’. Damp hair not only weighs it down, but also flattens it and nothing is worse than having flat hair! Once you feel your hair is dry apply a small amount of either coconut or argan oil, but avoid the scalp area otherwise it will leave your hair looking greasy. Then use a detangling hair brush or wide toothed comb.
  • Simply section Afterwards, part it off into several sections. This is especially important for those of you with thick hair as it cuts down the blow drying time off your hair as you never want to put your locks through too much heat. Create a horizontal parting along the back of your hair and fasten the top section out of the way. Drying the bottom layers first will ensure all the hair is dried thoroughly.
  • Handle the heat First off, avoid damage when using your hairdryer by applying some heat protection spray first. This will also help you achieve that coveted bounce. Right now, for this technique, the nozzle is your best friend! It focuses on the direction of your hair when it is drying hence why it is called the concentrator nozzle. To start off the styling process, take a barrel brush and a small section of hair and layer it on the top end of the brush. Then, while holding the hairdryer on top of your hair, slowly pull along the brush. Whilst doing this, gently curl the brush under as it reaches the end of your hair to ensure that it falls with a soft finish. For curly hair, using a brush will cause frizz so it is best to dry by scrunching and holding your hair under the heat as this will also achieve a similar finish.
  • Va va volume Velcro rollers are also a perfect way to naturally lift and curl your hair. Focusing on the top layers, particularly for thicker hair, separate individual sections and place the roller at the root underneath your hair. Pull the roller along the hair and when you reach the end, roll it back under itself to the scalp. Fasten the roller onto your head with a grip and secure with a medium hold spray. Once all rollers have been secured, give a final spray and warm gently using a low setting on the hairdryer. This will firmly secure and set the curls hence no need to carry hair spray in your purse all night long.
  • Finished and fabulous Now your hair is beautifully prepped and dried. Finally, remove the rollers and shake your hair gently but be wary of running your fingers through the curls as this can cause the look of frizz as well. One last spritz and you are ready to go and turn heads
