Who needs floodlights?

Bad weather may have threatened the ever popular Day/Night golf competition … however, the skies remained clear, long enough earlier in the week to allow the brave golfers to take part in this extremely fun albeit unpredictable event.

Based on a Stableford format, several teams-of-two took to the tees to play 7 holes in the daylight and returned later, after nightfall, to play the same holes with ‘glow in the dark’ golf balls at Awali Golf Club.

Squeals of laughter could be heard across the course as the players, closely resembling a group of miners lost on their way home from the village disco, battled to adjust to their diminished sensory perception and come to grips with the challenge.

For some it was a walk in the park. For the uninitiated, it was a little more difficult. The LED-lighted ball seemed to have a mind of its own, hurtling off at right angles, rarely doing what it was supposed to.

The only saving grace was that it was easy to find as they could track the beacon of light from the outset. The competition drew to a close as the sky was further illuminated by lightning strikes in the distance.

The players returned to the clubhouse for some welcome refreshments, eagerly awaiting the results. As it turned out, it was a closely run match, however, Jac and John Parker were the leaders of the pack.
