Women across the island are rejoicing following the return of one of the health sector’s most respected obstetrics and gynecology specialists.
Dr Bhanu Vasudevan, who has helped deliver more than a thousand babies and helped numerous women cope with the most sensitive of issues, is back in the kingdom having been signed up by the American Mission Hospital as part of its recent senior recruitment drive.
After a year of working in Oman with its Ministry of Health, the 59-year-old from South India is thrilled to be back ‘home’ in Manama.
Dr Bhanu, who has recently settled in Juffair, said: “I had spent 18 wonderful years in Bahrain, from 1997 to 2015, and I am delighted to be back at AMH.
“I have always considered Bahrain as my second home. Now I can enjoy my professional life here again and also continue on my spiritual journey in Bahrain.
“I am really happy to be back and I feel really grateful to my patients for their love and commitment. I have gained more knowledge and clinical skills since being away which would help with providing better care.
“We will continue to provide high quality care to women across the continuum of life and we are also planning to extend our services in other areas of Bahrain. I am looking forward to continuing my service to the lovely people of this great country.”
From an early age Dr Bhanu had dreamed of becoming a physician that was committed to women’s health, followed her heart through dedicated study before gaining practical experience.
Dr Bhanu completed her PG Diploma course known as a DGO and The Doctor of Medicine degree abbreviated as MD in the field at the Christian Medical College, Vellore. She obtained her membership from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, London (MRCOG) in 2001 and her Fellowship (FRCOG) in 2014. After her post-graduation, she worked in a mission hospital in India.
An obstetrician/gynecologist is a doctor who provides medical and surgical care to women and has particular expertise in pregnancy, childbirth and disorders of the reproductive system. This includes preventative care, prenatal care, detection of sexually transmitted diseases, Pap test screening, family planning and more.
She said: “It makes life fulfilling to help women and, in turn, make them feel happy and fulfilled. And, there is nothing more amazing than delivering their miracles … their babies.
“I feel honoured to be entrusted with a woman’s care in the most incredible times of her life and to help bring love, life and joy to her and her family.”
