Gulf Weekly Yacoub shines again in style

Awali Golf Club was finally able to host the Sheikh Abdulrahman Bin Fares Al Khalifa Cup last Friday after being postponed due to inclement weather earlier in the season.

Sheikh Abdulrahman was a member of the club for a few years and became Bahrain’s ambassador to the US and the UK. He died unexpectedly in the mid-1990s and to commemorate him, his family sponsored the tournament.

Open to other golf clubs on the island, the competition attracted a full field of 125 players. This year’s Bahrain Open Champion, Nasser Yacoub, from Bahrain Golf Club, delivered a near faultless performance which included four birdies, to claim the top prize with a stunning gross 69, 3 strokes ahead of his nearest rivals.

Mohammed Faraj from Awali GC deserves a special mention as he achieved a hole-in-one on Hole 14 and came 11th overall.

Prizes were awarded to the top four players with the best gross scores and to those with the best nett scores outside the gross prizes.
