Assistant Undersecretary of Domestic Trade, Hameed Rahma, has met with food traders in order to review the market’s readiness for Ramadan.

The aim has been to ensure the availability of goods and ensuring price stability over the busy shopping period. In addition, various promotional offers planned over the holy month were highlighted.

Officials representing the kingdom’s major markets confirmed here would be adequate supplies of basic foodstuffs and they guaranteed maintaining price stability to comply fully with relevant laws and ministerial decisions aimed at ensuring the compatibility of costs between the shelves and cashiers.

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce & Tourism has warned it will take all necessary legal measures against violators, stressing the need to review accounting systems and points of sales in stores to avoid errors over pricing. In recent months shoppers’ anger over price labels not matching till prices has resulted in a social media backlash with some stores being closed down by the authorities.
