Thanks to the support of Bahrain’s golfers and the generosity of multiple sponsors, more than BD10,000 was raised at the third annual Ladies Captain Charity Golf Tournament at the Royal Golf Club.

The money raised will be used to host fun activities to try and relieve the tedium for patients receiving cancer treatment at Salmaniya Hospital and help re-energise them for continuing their fight against the disease.

Eighty golfers competed in the 18 hole Florida Scramble tournament on Friday which was organised by the club’s 2017 Ladies Captain Stacey Thomas. The husband-and-wife duos of Matthew and Araceli Deakin and Edward and Martina O’Reilly won the event with a team nett score of 57.6.

A team comprising Zuzar Madarwala, Ernst Webster and Phil and Julie Dixon clinched second place with a score of 58.3 nett.

The event was followed by a poolside BBQ at the Royal Country Club which featured a fundraising raffle and auction.

Items that went under the hammer included a TaylorMade M1 driver and golf ball signed by 2017 Masters Champion Sergio Garcia, as well as an autographed Tiger Woods trading card set alongside a framed photo of the man himself.

A commemorative 2017 US Masters ‘Arnie’s Army’ badge, issued in memory of the recently-departed American golfing legend Arnold Palmer, and many items of official US Masters merchandise were also included in the auction.

“I would really like to thank everyone for making this event such a fantastic success,” said Thomas.

“It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the many golfers in Bahrain, the title sponsor Aviation Commerce & Capital, all the other sponsors and those who kindly provided raffle prizes.

“It’s wonderful to see what
the community can achieve when we all work together for the benefit of such a worthy cause.”
