‘Gulf Air announces the departure of its flight GF135, flying from New Delhi to Bahrain. All passengers are requested to proceed to Gate no. 19 for boarding.’

On an uncharacteristically, but deliciously cold December morning, with the sun playing truant and the all-too familiar sounds of the city I had been born and brought up in for the first 10 years of my life, something went eerily silent inside of me as I heard the announcement.

In a moment too unromantic for a Bollywood buff like me, here I was bidding goodbye to the delicious Delhi cuisines, the Mughal palettes and my teary-eyed friends.

Seven years to that tumultuous day, this tiny beautiful island, cosily sandwiched between the waters of the Arabian Gulf, is the runway to my dreams. Serene, supreme and splendid, the land of the two seas embraced me with open arms and lovingly and protectively nurtured me into who I am today.

Never too late for the happy task of introductions, I am Saamia Zia, a voracious reader and passionate about horse riding, mathematics and karting.

I’m pursuing my A’ levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Economics at St Christopher’s School and am the director of ChrisMUN.

At 17 and a Bahrain-lover, I am playful and restless with a mind that yearns to learn and absorb and create, unabashed and unapologetic, an aspiring teen, independent in her thoughts even as I present my opinions and experiences to you.
