Gulf Weekly Open to a price cut

Golf fans hooked on the 2017 British Open can cash in on the excitement and play for less, thanks to a cut price promotion at the Royal Golf Club … perhaps before settling down to watch the action.

Players are invited to show their inner Padraig Harrington or Henrik Stenson before and during the event between Monday, July 17 and Sunday, July 23 and take advantage of a further 17 per cent off the best available online rate.

The 2017 British Open, also known as the Open Championship, will be the 146th playing of the tournament, and takes place from July 20-23 at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England.

This is the 10th time that the British Open will be played at this course. The last time was in 2008 when Harrington successfully defended his title. The course is a par-70 and is 7,173 yards in length.

Reigning Champion Golfer of the Year Stenson recently revealed that winning The Open was his ultimate dream.

The Swede beat American Phil Mickelson to earn his first major title in a thrilling encounter at Royal Troon last year. And Stenson insists claiming the Claret Jug was always the prize he most valued in golf.

He said: “I always had the belief that I could win The Open because it’s been in the back of my mind since I first stood on a putting green.

“You imagine those things as a junior and I finally got to live that dream. For me, it was always the one to win.

“When I sat there a year ago with no major championship I’d have gladly taken any. But if I’m to win only one, that’d be the one because being European and watching my idols battling it out for The Open - it’s been highest on my wish list.”

Current World Number 1 American Dustin Johnson remains favourite despite missing the cut at the US Open and missing The Masters altogether.

Brooks Koepka, the 2017 US Open winner, is also a contender alongside Sergio Garcia, the 2017 Masters winner, and Henrik Stenson, last year’s Open Championship winner.

The Royal Golf Club is home to Bahrain’s only 18 hole championship standard golf course and to a par 3 9-hole course, both designed by course architect and golfing legend Colin Montgomerie.

The club is managed by Troon and was named 2013 Facility of the Year, the company’s top accolade. Additional facilities at the Royal Golf Club include award winning restaurants, a golf academy with full practice facilities, a golf & leisure shop, meeting and conference rooms and a country club.
