Summarising a rather sexist and overused joke, he looked at me, expecting, at the very least, a chuckle. When I remained expressionless, he asked me pompously, ‘Oh, you are one of the feminists, aren’t you?’

In response to him and the millions of men (and women), the simple reply goes, ‘Why yes, I am, and you should be too.’

Hot wheels, Nerf guns, Barbies and Power Rangers, I had every little concept present in my childhood and never did my family ever coax me to divide my vast imagination on the basis of gender embodiment to a lifeless object. In spite of that, my imagination was not even close to what the real world had in store. Over time, I have realised that humans are scared of equality, be it in terms of their race, their religion or their gender, where both men and women have been trying to hold off the abolishment of stereotypes.

But, no, not all of us like shopping, not all of us love make-up, we know the latest technology in the markets and many of us do know that the car that just passed by was a Lamborghini Huracán that has a top speed of 341 km/hr, reaches 0 to 100 km/hr in 2.5 seconds and has an electric steering.

It has been 169 years since organised feminism started and it is appalling that people still resort to mockery and revolt. It is rather sad and confusing at the same time. Lucky for us, we all can make the difference that we yearn to see, it all starts with being open about being a feminist, irrespective of belonging to any gender!
