More than 60 university students from across the kingdom have enrolled in Batelco’s Summer Internship Programme to learn a range of skill sets from different departments to benefit them in their future careers.

The annual programme, which started in July and ends this month, gave students the opportunity to work in the telecom giants’ different fields including networking, enterprise, the call centre, sales and marketing and human resources. According to management, this gives students a chance to experience a professional working environment and gain an insight into how business operates based on market demands.

Batelco’s chief executive officer, engineer Muna Al Hashemi, said: “Batelco is always keen to train students on the various skills that will increase their employment opportunities in the future and taking on a number of students during the summer months continues to be an important part of the support we give to the community.”

The skills covered include communication, team work and taking initiatives as well as learning about the importance of timeliness when completing tasks, among more skills.

Ebru Pilav, general manager human resources and corporate services, said: “Academic achievement alone is insufficient; it requires the addition of practical experience. We strongly believe in developing local talent and our summer internship programme aims to prepare students for their professional careers by providing such practical training in a real-life environment to enhance their educational achievements. Students often have smart ideas so we can also learn from them.”
