FABULOUS foursome Todd Gillespie, Ronan Armstrong, Barry Hobday and Andy Love powered their way to success at the ‘The Greenkeepers Revenge’ tournament staged at the Royal Golf Club last weekend.
The format was a four-man Texas Scramble with 12 teams taking part. It was a stroke-play event and the winning team achieved an impressive Gross 57 (15 under par) nett 54.9 to win by three shots.
There were some interesting challenges with one tee placed in the sand, a flag surrounded by several additional holes, machinery on the fairways and various obstacles placed around the greens.
Hilde & Stan Kwik and Ann & Kevin Hudon came in second place with a nett score of 57.7.
More than 50 players were present in the Member’s Lounge where director of agronomy, William Evans, was on hand on Friday to give out an array of prizes, which included two rakes, pots of paint and a drop zone sign, alongside shopping vouchers.
The annual Greenkeepers Revenge gives the club’s agronomy team the opportunity to set up the course in any which way they like, giving them the chance to get ‘revenge’ on the club’s members.
As the winners shot such a low score the greenkeepers have already started plotting for next year. Members have been warned.
