Hollywood may have had its Oscars and London its Brit Awards but Bahrain’s leading thespians celebrated in suitable style at the British Club for the annual Golden Spoons Awards ceremony.

It was an emotional evening as members of Manama Theatre Club (MTC) were awarded their gongs for performances from 2017.

Golden spoons were awarded to recognise actors from Pantomime, Pint-Sized Plays and the critically-acclaimed The Seafarer.

The production crews were also acknowledged with even The British Club of Bahrain in Um al Hassam receiving an award in honour of its leaking roof.

Stacey Barlow’s wicked laugh bagged her female Newcomer of the Year, with Sowsan Hasan taking the coveted Best female Actor of the Year for her portrayal of the Fairy Godmother in the popular festive production.

Dan Maloney delighted in Male Newcomer of The Year for his role as the blind Richard in the Seafarer while Khaled Al Dossary stole the limelight as he was awarded Best Male Actor of The Year for the striking portray of Mr Lockhart.

The Most Memorable ‘Improv’ Moment accolade went to Stephanie Sutton. Karen Ralph took away the Golden Spoon for Best Set and Director of The Year went to Carrie Lunt-Bell for Cinderella.

Laughs were a-plenty and a great night of fun was had by all and now the serious business of preparing for the next production is taking place.

The British Club’s theatre section returns with a new round of Pint Sized Plays, with a comedy twist and an age limit of 16, on home soil with tavern-style seating tomorrow and the following evening at the Dilmun Club. The shows on both Thursday and Friday start at 7.45pm with tickets priced BD5 on sale at both venues.
