Anger, turmoil, helplessness, sadness, despair but mostly anger … anger is what I feel today as I am reminded of the outrageous Kathua rape case in India each time I look up the case developments.
On January 12, an eight-year-old girl was reported missing from her home by her father. Later it was discovered that she had been kidnapped, sedated, raped repeatedly, and then bludgeoned to death after an ordeal lasting five days.
The details of this attack are heinous, the events ghastly. Moreover, what is equally shocking has been the viral posts on social media, certain media reports and comments made by ‘significant’ politicians, some going as far as to defend those accused.
It pains me that it took three months for the action train to start. It took numerous protests, not only in India but worldwide, to support the need for justice.
As a woman, as an Indian, as a citizen of the world, I am ashamed.
I really hope that all those found guilty of this crime are rightly sentenced, no matter their age, profession or title.
