Hot Laser, Bahrain’s favourite glam-rockers, have released a new hot video to complement their latest single release … and it became more than a pet project for the band’s charismatic lead singer and a stunning guest actress.
Singer and model Tamar Roxx, currently lead vocalist in Fever, a resident band at a Manama five star hotel, stepped in to play the song title’s Crazy Angel character and shared the limelight with a batty bird and a diva dog.
“We were extremely fortunate to have the multi-talented Tamar step in,” said Hot Laser’s frontman Robert Jennings. “She was approached by Studio ACA, and kindly agreed to partake in the project.”
And his family’s pets proved up to the task too.
When Robert, 32, is not glam rocking under his stage name of Rob Jungle, he can be found wearing a sensible suit, collar and tie working as sales manager at The Bookcase, not far from Roger ‘The Rock’, a six-year-old African Grey parrot, perched on top of a cage close to his desk.
The bird likes the sounds of Hot Laser too and happily attends rehearsals. It was only natural that one day he would appear in one of their videos.
“He often counts in the band screeching 1, 2, 3, 4,” said Robert. “After Hot Laser his favourite band is Aerosmith and the song Dream On in particular.”
Deema, on the other hand, is a seven-year-old thoroughbred ‘four-eyes’ Saluki and didn’t want to miss out on the action either. She proved that a touch of class can really make the difference.
Robert explained: “Deema the ‘diva’ behaved exceptionally well in the video requiring only one take and staying in perfect position, before retiring off set for a rest.”
As reported earlier in GulfWeekly, the song lyrics for Crazy Angel were written by bass guitarist Joe Dalton, who is from the city of Limerick in Ireland, with song structure by guitarist Daryl Bustos. The single was inspired by the Irish folk lore legend of Tir na n’Og - the beautiful Niamh of angelic appearance, who travelled on her white horse and fell in love with a warrior poet called Oisin.
After many years of marriage and missing his homeland, Oisin borrowed Niamh’s white horse to return home to visit relatives. Tragically, he did not survive the journey and when the horse returned without its rider, Niamh knew she would never see her beloved husband again and wept.
“We are absolutely thrilled with the quality and storyline of the video,” said Robert. “It is clear how the character of the angel changes throughout the song, as good turns to bad, along with the special effects. We are extremely thankful to the filming and production team at Bahrain’s Studio ACA.
“A great video would not be possible without a great song, so a special thank you to Hani Taqi of Studio 77, to our live drummer Omar Al Taie and Frances Stafford for managing the video. Not to forget all the other people involved who feature in the credits.”
Tamar, who will be returning to the UK shortly after a contract performing at the Intercontinental Regency’s Downtown venue ends, has experience with music videos having starred in her own video called Lullaby which is also available on YouTube.
She didn’t mind sharing the limelight with Robert’s feathered and furry friends. “They definitely made the day more interesting,” she said, adding that working with animals was ‘always fun, albeit unpredictable’, after recalling a modelling shoot featuring a pet beagle which delayed filming when it ran off into a park. This time the animals were on top form. “Roger kept making me laugh in the dressing room by making funny little quips,” she said. “Deema was like me and enjoyed being in front of the camera.”
It’s all change for Robert too. He’s set to start medical school in September at RCSI Bahrain but says music will continue to play a part in his life. “My next task is to finish the last four songs of the Hot Laser album, to enable a CD release soon!”
