The SWY programme is a youth exchange programme organised and sponsored by the Cabinet Office of the Japanese Government and supported in Bahrain by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs and the Ship for World Youth Alumni Association of Bahrain. This year, from January 10 to February 24, the global programme is bringing together approximately 120 Japanese youth and approximately 120 youth from other countries including a dozen Bahraini youth as well as youngsters from Brazil, Egypt, France, UK, Kenya, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru and Sri Lanka.

Japanese Ambassador to Bahrain, Hideki Ito, noted: “SWY is one of the long-standing Japanese government’s projects which have been strengthening the relationship between Japan and Bahrain.

“Bahrain has participated in SWY programme 13 times since 1998 and we finally got this 14th opportunity after the interruption for three years.

“This will bring the total number of Bahraini participants in SWY Programme to 150, which is among the highest all over the world.”
