With the weather getting better and a little chillier, more people are taking to enjoying their morning cuppas or evening gatherings outdoors. Plus, in the kingdom, this is the ideal weather for barbecuing. Hence, it’s time to bring that cosy indoor feeling outside for the entire family to enjoy.

Start prepping your outdoor area by planning out what type of furnishing and design best suits your space and need.

According to Amit Yadav, head of marketing at an Emirati home and décor retailer, whether someone has a large garden or a tiny balcony, the right furniture and décor can turn any space into a stylish and relaxing nook.

He added: “Each item must be chosen according to the available area. Simple additions such as floral cushions, planters or cane furniture can add life while creating comfortable seating zones. A key consideration should be the durability of items given the weather conditions.

“Also, there needs to be a seamless flow between inside and outside. The two areas need to be coordinated in the same spirit in order to create a balanced look.

“It is best to choose less for a bigger impact. Simple things when combined thoughtfully can look striking. Also, one size does not fit all.”

Amit is right. When purchasing your outdoor furniture or accessories, make sure to find the most efficient design and durable material for your space.

The most common choices for patio furniture include:

Metal: This type of furniture is lighter than wood and doesn’t require much maintenance. However, metal in some climates can be worrisome resulting in rust. Aluminum and wrought iron are popular choices for sleek, stylish outdoor furniture.

Wood: This is obviously long-lasting if taken care of properly and perfect for combining the interior and exterior décor. It offers balance and earthy vibes. However, make sure the wood is treated to withstand any of Bahrain’s elements.

Wicker: It’s comfortable, lightweight and can come in a variety of colours to fit in any décor. It can also be placed indoors and outdoors.

Another important question to ask yourself when decorating your outdoor area is what look are you going for? Do you want your backyard to look like a tropical wonderland? Then wooden furniture may be your best bet. If you are looking for an ‘I’d like to catch up on my reading while sipping this espresso’ vibe then probably a chic wrought iron look is more for you.

There’s tons of patio furniture that comes in sets but you can also purchase it piece by piece to mix and match. There is no right or wrong way to decorate. Think plush patterned cushions, soft and fluffy blankets, hanging lanterns as well as colourful ottomans and bean bags thrown around patio furniture. Every little detail counts and your guests will appreciate it too.

This is your outdoor escape and haven so make it count.
