Dar Shabab Al Riffa Band (Bahrain):

Venue: Live at Arad Fort, with limited car space

Founded in the 1970s by Mohammed Oraik, this band embodies an ancient folkloric voice emblematic of Bahrain’s shared cultural heritage, while reflecting the nuances that exist across the nation.

Friday, August 14

Cendrawasih Dance (Indonesia):

The Balinese art of Cendrawasih dance, named after the rare birds-of-paradise, is relatively new but draws inspiration from classical dance routines, telling the story of life while imitating the movements of the Cendrawasih.

Shamsa and Sushi (Storytelling):

Ideal for kids aged three to seven, this is a funny story read by Eman Alghawas, about a girl named Shamsa and her first sushi experience. Throughout this story, children will learn how to make their own sushi. Have some sushi ready at hand to eat afterwards!

Saturday, August 15

Football:

Perfect for those aged four to six years old, this livestreamed activity is an opportunity to learn basic “Brazilian-style” football skills from home.

Spain meets Bahrain (Cooking):

Chef Bassam AlAlawi will whip up recipes bridging the cultural divides between Spanish and Bahraini cuisines using readily available ingredients. Simple and easy, learn the delicious Tortilla Espagnola recipe, a staple of Spanish and Basque cuisine and the traditional Bahraini spiced eggs served with a zesty Greek yoghurt.

Sunday, August 16

Palestinian Folk Arts Band:

Highlighting the Palestinian folk dance called “Talat”, this ensemble imbues Palestinian cultural identity and pride, mixing folk dance like Dabke with contemporary moves to channel the spirit of the nation’s history and present.

Qala’at al-Bahrain Site Museum Tour:

Learn about the importance of Qala’at al-Bahrain, one of the most important sites in the region, as the site is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. Accompanied by Nakhool and Nakhoola, this tour will discuss the various civilisations that have continuously inhabited the site.
