A stunning picture of Mercury in transit, shot by award-winning lensman Premjith Narayanan, has been featured in an international book celebrating the world’s best astronomy photographers.

Mercury in Transit was taken on November 11 from the sailing club at Zallaq beach and is the only photograph from any contestant in the Middle East to be included in the book Astronomy Photographer of the Year: Collection 9.

Premjith has some tips for photographers waiting for a stellar opportunity next week – the upcoming conjunction.

“If you want to capture the night sky, use the wide angle lens, perhaps a 24mm with aperture of F2.8,” he said.

“For a closer picture, use the 70-200mm F2.8 lens and make sure not to over-expose the picture when compensating for the city lights. One to two seconds of exposure is ideal.

“Use a tripod for the best shots, and keep the ISO at around 100.”
