Environmental issues and eco-friendly consumption will be in the spotlight this Saturday during a panel discussion and screening of the latest movie by director Yann Arthus Bertrand, writes Naman Arora.

The event will feature Shereen Fekri, co-founder of ‘The Undressed Company’, a conscious platform standardising sustainable fashion practices for GCC consumers, Dr Sumaya Yusuf, assistant professor and chair of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment at the Arabian Gulf university and Ahmed Alkuwaiti, managing director of the Bahrain food bank. The panel will be moderated by Pierre Sfeir from the LEED Green Building Council.

The event, starting at 4pm on Saturday, will take place at the Alliance Francaise in Isa Town and is being organised by the French embassy.

“An eco-responsible consumer is one who practises gestures to limit his ecological footprint and impact on the environment,” a spokesperson from the French embassy told GulfWeekly.

“Becoming eco-responsible is a process whose objective is to preserve the environment. The objective of this conference is to present the impact of our overconsumption of food and clothing before giving you tools to improve our footprint on a daily basis.”

The panel discussion, which runs from 4pm to 6pm, will be followed by a screening of the movie Legacy in French with English subtitles.

In Legacy, director Yann Arthus-Bertrand looks back on his life and 50 years of commitment to environmentalism, revealing a suffering planet and the ecological damage caused by humans.

He also presents several solutions to the present climate crisis and plastic pollution.

The event running from 4pm to 8.30pm is open only to Covid-19-vaccinated individuals.
